Dear HMA Members,
It is with great honor and anticipation that I take over as President of the San
Diego County Hotel-Motel Association. For over 30 years, HMA has served as
the voice of San Diego’s hospitality industry, and has been successful, mainly because
of you, our members. Our strength lies in your participation and our relationships
with our industry partners.
Over the past few years, the dynamics of the hospitality industry have changed.
But what hasn’t changed, is the positive impact our industry has made to our employees
and the City of San Diego. We employ over 100,000 people and generate close
to $135 million dollars in T.O.T. revenue for the City. We have many things
to be proud of as an industry.
On behalf of the HMA Board of Directors, we are looking forward to a year of unity
and growth. There are many exciting changes happening within the industry
and City. The San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau has a new President
& CEO, David Peckinpaugh; the Convention Center Corporation has a majority of
new board members who are actively engaged in learning about and understanding the
hospitality industry; and most importantly, we have a Mayor that supports tourism
100 percent and a City Council working hard for the betterment of San Diego.
Working closely with all of our industry partners and ensuring dedicated funding
for our marketing engines are key goals of the Board.
During the coming year, we will be promoting HMA and providing you with resources
through a redeveloped web site, special events, and our participation in disaster
preparedness on a regional level.
Thank you in advance for your support of HMA during the coming year. Together,
we can ensure the continued success of the hospitality industry and strive to get
more “heads in beds.”
Sincerely,
Mohsen Khaleghi
President
